Business - Management and Finance



Students in the Business Management and Finance program demonstrate an interest in solving problems and creating opportunities through ethical business practices. They approach their tasks with enthusiasm and demonstrate independence in their thinking and behavior. They are self-starters who are comfortable working independently, and solving problems creatively. They have solid skills in mathematics, are interested in developing human relations skills, care about the work environment, and view themselves as leaders.

Program Description

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for college or an entry-level position in business. Students use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software while learning the principles of business management and administration, financial management, accounting, and entrepreneurship. Students will complete the five required classes list below along with one elective. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in an internship or work-based learning experience and to join the school's chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

Required Classes (5 Credits)
HTML/JavaScript/Web Design -- This course introduces the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) used in the creation of web pages. Students will also learn the fundamentals of JavaScript to give their web pages added functionality such as slide shows and rollovers.
Principles of Business, Administration, and Management -- This course provides students with the knowledge of the types of businesses, as well as various applications, laws, and theories of business.
Principles of Accounting (GT) -- This course, which uses a college-level text, emphasizes accounting principles.
Financial Management using Software Applications -- This course provides students with the knowledge and practice they need to make informed financial decisions and to successfully manage financial resources in business.
Information Systems Management I (GT) -- This course is designed to help students develop managerial and technical skills in a state-of-the-art office. This program is set up as a company, with the teacher as the employer.
