Honors Societies

International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is an honorary group for school theatre students. The mission of ITS is to honor student excellence in the theatre arts. Membership in the ITS is open to theatre students who have participated in at least two main stage productions for a total of 100 hours of work and have demonstrated excellence in their academics.

 

National Art Honor Society        

The National Art Honor Society beginning their third year is an art service club with a very active membership. Our activities include: Quarterly Movie Nights, art show assistance, and mural installation. All art students are invited to join. NAHS members need to maintain a "B" average in their prime and earn 15 hours of documented service to the Carver Center art community

 

National Honor Society for Dance Arts                  

Membership in the National Honor Society for Dance Arts is open to all Junior and Senior Dance Prime students who have consistently demonstrated outstanding artistic and academic achievement.  To be eligible for induction students must maintain an over-all 3.0 GPA and must earn 30 points, at least 20 of which should be earned while participating in dance activities within the dance prime program at Carver Center.  Points can be earned through participation in activities within the dance prime such as performances, festival attendance, technical theatre crew and production during performance, teaching assistance, and through participating in community dance activities or other activities in the performing arts outside of the prime program. Prospective member’s consistent demonstration of teamwork, motivation, and commitment to the art of dance is an important factor in determining eligibility for membership.

                                                               

National English Honor Society                

Membership in the National English Honor Society is open to students who demonstrate sustained excellence in their Honors and GT/AP English classes, maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA in their English classes and a 3.0 or higher GPA overall.  Students must exhibit superior writing skills and a commitment to appreciation of language and literature. Special honor cords are worn by members at Graduation.  In January, information regarding membership is distributed to students in their sophomore and junior English classes.

 

National French Honor Society

Membership in the National French Honor Society is open to students in French level 3 or higher, with a record of A work in French, and currently maintaining an A average in French, and an overall GPA of B or better. Attendance at 8 meetings per year, and participation in Society fundraisers and activities is expected.  Special cords are worn by members at Graduation.  Letters of invitation to join the Society are distributed to those who qualify in early Spring.

 

National Honor Society               

Membership in the National Honor Society is open to students with a scholastic quality grade point average of 4.25, outstanding character, leadership, and service. In December and January each year, information regarding membership in the National Honor Society is released to Carver Center students through announcements.

 
National Science Honor Society

The purpose of this chapter of the National Science Honor Society is to create an enthusiasm for scientific and intellectual thought, to advance knowledge of classical and modern science, to motivate a desire to render service and to promote worthy leadership.  Members of this society are expected to uphold the civic, ethical, scholastic and extra-curricular standards set by the school and community.

National Mathematics Honor Society   

Membership in the National Mathematics Honor Society is open to students who have at least 4 semesters of college preparatory mathematics and have at least a 3.0 GPA.  The purpose of the society is to engender keener interest in mathematics and develop scholarship in the subject and promote enjoyment of mathematics among the students at Carver Center.

 

National Social Studies Honor Society  

Membership in the National Social Studies Honor Society is open to students who have been in attendance at Carver Center for the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered. To be eligible students must have completed 2.0 credits of courses in the field of social studies and  be prepared to complete at least 3.5. The minimum grade point average for these courses is an unweighted 3.5 or numerical equivalent, and have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or the numerical equivalent. Students must provide evidence of community service and a letter of recommendation from a current teacher.

 

National Spanish Honor Society

Membership in the National Spanish Honor Society is open to students in Spanish 3 or higher, with a record of A work in Spanish, and currently maintaining an A average in Spanish, and an overall GPA of B or better. Attendance at meetings during the year, and participation in Society fundraisers and activities is expected of members. Honor cords are worn by members at the Graduation ceremony. Letters of invitation to join the Society are distributed to those who qualify in early Spring.


 

National Technical Honor Society           

Membership in the National Technical Honor Society is open to students with a 2.0 or better in their academics and a 3.0 or better in their prime and outstanding character, leadership, and service. In January and February each year, information regarding membership in the National Technical Honor Society is released to Carver Center students through announcements and their prime teachers.
