*This is an additional program to BCPS’s 9th Grade Orientation Day. All three days
will provide different experiences for Carver Center’s 9th grade students.
Program goals: • Become familiar with their new school building, faculty/staff,
and expectations of high school at Carver • Become familiar with Carver Culture •
Learn essential skills needed for success in high school • Jumpstart the
preparation of 9th graders for the upcoming and future SAT suite of assessments
Overview of Day 1: • Meet faculty/staff, new classmates, upper class students •
Participate in icebreaker activities • Essential Skills Lessons ▪ Learning style ▪ Note
Taking ▪ Study Skills / Test Taking ▪ Time Management ▪ Close Reading ▪ PSAT/SAT

Overview of Day 2: • Meet more faculty/staff, new classmates, and upper-class
students. • Learn about Carver Culture, including the history of the school,
traditions, and guidelines • Learn essential skills to participate in, and continue
Carver’s Cornerstone of Respect: Recognizing implicit bias, avoiding microaggressions, being a bias interrupter, self-advocacy, and other social-emotional
learning skills to be successful at Carver.
Busses will be provided from Parkville High School and New Town High School.
